I have just applied for a job and if i get it then they are going to send me to college. I am living at home at the moment and would like to move out asap!!! The job works out at min wage so i really need to find out if that's enough for me to rent a place.
But what financial advantages are there of being a student?|||financial advatages really? if there were I have never came across them in my 4 years at uni lol
the most evident ones are:
student discounts - usually at a 1/3 off. typical off train tickets, cinema/concert tickets, software, computers, drinks, food, sports equipment etc. but you have to ask whether they do it upfront
student rate current and savings accounts - you will have to look into the banks for those
you get grants and scholarships if the university wants you. However, you will also have to pay them back in tuition fees. consider it more of a discount
you are exempt from council tax
you may get certain health services free but you have to ask and check it with your GP
you get to apply for student loans which you pay back with low interest rates. Ask people about it though, I hear it takes ages to pay back.
you get discount on certain loans but they will start charging you once you get your job
these are the ones that I could think from the top of my head. I recommend you to go to directgov.co.uk and nusonline.co.uk (NUS = National Union for/of students)
Other websites for student info is out there. I found them of little use but they may be of relevance to you.
Hope this helps|||You don't have to pay a mortgage or pension plan. You can share with other students so you can save on accommodation. You don't have to buy a lot of furniture. You can get cheaper rates on some stuff. You don't have kids so you save money on that (unless you do something silly). That kind of stuff.|||Most things are discounted. You don't usually have to pay any taxes at minimum wage, or get a refund at the end. Depends on where you live. In San Francisco, you'd need a LOT of roommates at minimum wage. In Oklahoma, you could probably pull it off.|||Well minimum wage is really not much to go on. And as a first time renter your going to need furniture and such so all that costs money. What if the job doesn't work out? I would start working and stay home, safe up money and then go out on your own.|||Minimum wage is not enough to get your own place. Being a college student helps make you a more marketable employee. Once you have your degree your earnings ability increases.|||Higher education will help you to make more money. Also if you file tax being a student helps. There are other small things, for example some companies offer small discounts for students.
