What are the financial consequences of breaking a lease?

I signed a lease to move into an apartment with my partner but he ended the relationship soon after and he moved out. For financial reasons, I am no longer able to stay there alone and pay rent and I am worrried about the penalties involved in breaking a lease. Would subletting be a worthwhile option?|||You need to check your lease to ensure subletting is allowed and what rules apply if it is.

If you break your lease, you will be financially responsible for the remainder of the lease until the landlord has been able to secure another tenant. You landlord must make reasonable efforts to fill the vacancy and may not charge both you and another tenant for the same time period.
